Frequently Asked Questions and Privacy Policy about the
Penncrest High School Class of 1980 Website
1. What will this website cost me?
Unlike other class-reunion websites out there, you are not charged a thing to join or participate. Membership here is absolutely FREE! So, no excuses....come on everybody--sign up and join in.
2. This is my first visit to the website. How do I login?
Click on the "Classmate Profiles" link (above, far left tab), then click on YOUR NAME to set up a FREE member account. The set up process contains just five steps. Provide your e-mail address, select a password (which you can change at any time), and tell us about your life since Penncrest High School. Add your married name, if applicable, photos, etc. Once you have established your profile, you will then have access to the entire website, which includes the ability to view password protected pages and communicate with other classmates.
3. I forgot my login information and/or password. What should I do?
You login with the e-mail address you provided during your member account set up (include domain name, such as @aol.com). If you have several e-mail addresses and cannot remember which one you used or if you no longer have access to that e-mail address, click on "Contact Us" and provide your new e-mail address. Our website administrator will make the change and then e-mail you a temporary password. Once you've logged in using your new e-mail address and temporary password, change your password by clicking the "Change Your Password" link under the Member Functions menu on the home page.
If you remember your e-mail address, but forgot your password, click on the "Forgot Password?" link right above the green "Log On" button, and the website will automatically e-mail your password to you within a few minutes.
4. I'm having trouble logging onto the website or I am logged on, but can't access password protected pages. What's going on?
Nine times out of ten, when you are having trouble logging onto the website, the issue is a cookie problem. You'll need to delete your "Temporary Internet Files and Cookies" on your computer. This can be done using the Internet Options button in your Tools section. Clear your Temporary Internet Files (cache) and clear your current cookies so you are starting fresh. Make sure you are doing nothing to block cookies for this website. The login system depends on cookies working. If you are blocking cookies in general, you need to at least permit them for this website so you can log in. Reboot your computer and try logging in again.
Note: Cookies aren't bad. The cookie scare of the late 1990s was largely based on misconceptions that cookies stored on your computer's hard drive somehow violated privacy. Erroneous information regarding cookies has long since been corrected, and cookies are a common programming practice used today by some of the Internet's largest web sites. There is nothing Class Creator does with cookies that will in any way jeopardize your privacy, store personal information about you or submit your personal information to other web sites.
If problems still persist, you can always use the Contact Us or e-mail the server programmer staff at info@classcreator.com.
5. Who has access to my "Classmate Profile" and personal contact information?
You can choose whether your "Classmate Profile" is publicly viewable on the web (e.g., by other classes, friends, and the general public) or restricted to registered Penncrest High School classmates only. If restricted, search engines and the general public will be blocked from accessing your Classmate Profile page. You can also choose whether or not your mailing address and phone number are displayed in your profile; otherwise, only the City and State where you live will be listed. "Classmate Comments" allows classmates to enter comments under your Profile. Most users opt to leave this feature on. You have the ability to edit or delete any comments left under your Profile. Click on the "Edit Your Profile" link under the Member Functions menu in the side column, then scroll down to the bottom of the page to make your choice.
If you are logged onto the site and you Google or search yourself or any of us that has a profile, your entire profile will show, but ONLY if you are logged on, and ONLY to you. Anyone else who Googles you will get a message that you have to be logged on to see that profile, as soon as you log out and check again, you get the "you have to log in" message.
6. Can I be notified if other Classmates update their "Classmate Profile"?
YES! Click on "Classmate Profiles", then click on the name of the classmate you'd like to keep track of. Once he/she has registered, his/her profile will be displayed. Scroll down to the bottom of his/her profile page, click on the box that says "Notify me whenever [Classmate's] profile is updated", and click on the "Notify Me" button. You will be notified by e-mail. If you click "Profile Subscriptions" under Member Functions on the left frame, a list will be displayed of all classmates for whom you have subscribed to their profile. There, you can add or delete a subscription to be notified should an old friend join the site or if an already subscribed classmate changes their profile.
7. Does the public or other Classmates have access to my e-mail address?
No. To protect your privacy, your e-mail address is stored only within the website, so Classmates can send you a message, but they have to enter a six-digit security code that prevents non-classmates or "spammers" from sending you junk e-mail. You can decide who you want to provide your own e-mail address to. So, if you send an email message to a classmate, your email address will appear at the bottom of that message, so that communication can occur. To check if you've received any new messages, click on the "Message Area" under the Member Functions menu in the side column.
8. How will I receive e-mails from the Penncrest Class of 1980?
E-mails to everyone will be sent from postmaster@classcreator.net so please add this e-mail address to your Address Book, or to your spam filter's Approved List. You can send e-mails to our website administrator, by clicking on the "Contact Us" tab at the top of the page.
9. What are examples of the e-mails that I may be sent?
You won't receive much e-mail from this site. If so, it would be regarding Reunion Information, and that won't happen often, if at all. Perhaps a reminder e-mail will be sent to you on New Year's Day suggesting that the start of the new year is a good time to update your "Classmate Profile".
10. Can I post my own photos or videos on the website?
Yes! You can upload current photos of yourself, your family, pets, vacations, old photos from days gone by, past reunions, etc. (anything you want to share) by clicking on "Edit/Upload Photos" under the Member Functions menu on the left. There is no limit on the number of digital photos that you can store on your "Classmate Profile" page. Each photo is automatically resized to fit on your Profile page. You can also upload your own videos that you've posted to YouTube.com by clicking on the "Classmate Profiles" link, then following the instructions. And yes, you can add, delete, or replace your own photos or videos at any time.
11. How do the Classmate Profile sorting options work?
All items in the key on your Classmate Profiles pages are, for example, if you want to see only active Classmates, or Classmates who have photos, etc., you can click on any specific key to see just those Classmates. Also, there is an "A-Z" default Class List display. A "Last Updated" key which shows Classmates by most recently updated Profiles to oldest Profiles. A "Newest Members" key which shows Classmates by most recently joined, to oldest members. A "Latest Profile Comments" key which shows Classmates at the top of the list who have recently had comments added under their Profiles. And a "Senior Picture" key which displays a virtural yearbook of sorts of everyone's senior yearbook photo.
The Classmate Profile sorting options make it much easier to identify where there is new Classmate content to be seen.
12. My Senior Photo is not on this site. How can it be posted?
Only the website administrator has the capability to post your senior portrait in the upper right hand side of your Profile page. Senior pictures were scanned from the yearbook, so if your picture was not in the yearbook, we could not put it on the site. Not to worry though, click the "Contact Us" button and ask me where you can either e-mail me your scanned senior picture (in JPEG format, please) or where you can snail mail me a copy to scan and post to your page. Please send those photos, we want everyone's smiling faces!
13. What qualifies someone as a "Guest Member" on this site?
A "Guest Member" is a classmate who went through the school years with us, but didn't graduate with us. They either moved away, failed a class, or perhaps they are "friends" from another class a year before or after us. To become a "Guest Member" simply e-mail me (on the "Contact Us" button) tell me your association with our class and ask me to add your name. Once your name is added, you will then be able to post your own profile and join in all the website activities.
14. I have some photos I'd like included on the site. What do I do?
If you have any old photos from the jr. or high school years you'd like to share on the website, click the "Contact Us" button and ask where you can either e-mail your scanned pictures (in JPEG format, please) or where you can snail mail them. I will scan and post them on the website, then mail them right back to you. I promise!
15. The "In Memory" page.
Yes, as sad as it is to think about, it is inevitable. We've had a few classmates pass away since high school, and although they are not with us in body, they are with us in memory. We need your help in updating any information on these classmates or if you have knowledge of anyone that should be added, please let us know. If you have something to share about a deceased class member, feel free to add your own special memory or funny story to their profile page. Remember, this page is not there for us to mourn our passed classmates, but to remember them as they were--full of youthful energy and life!
16. How does the "Message Forum" work?
Click on "Message Forum" above and you can informally chat with your fellow classmates when they login and read the "Message Forum". Post a response to a prior message, or start your own topic of conversation by asking a question, re-living an old memory, or share your thoughts on life. Don't be shy...it's FREE!
17. Does Class Creator rent, sell, or in any way profit from having our Classmates' names, addresses, and personal information? How does it make its money?
No. Class Creator does not rent or sell any Classmate information or engage in any marketing or solicitation to Classmates. All personal contact information is held strictly confidential. Class Creator does not sell advertising on the website or display banner ads or pop-up windows. Class Creator does sell domain name registrations to classes through its ClassNames.net subsidiary for $19 per year, but using that service is optional. We have chosen to purchase a domain name to make the site easier to remember. Our website is owned by our Reunion Committee--not by Class Creator. And although Class Creator recently implemented charging a fee (January 2009) for new websites, ours was initiated before that date and we have been grandfathered in.
18. What if my question is not answered on this page and I need to get in touch with someone from the site?
Click on "Contact Us" link above. You will be taken to an email form. Type your message or question in the space provided and click the "submit" button. The message will be sent to our site administrator. The site administrator will reply to your question as soon as possible. Or, for more information about Class Creator, visit their website (www.classcreator.com) or call their Customer Service Department at 734-717-2646 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Pacific time Monday - Friday, or e-mail them at info@classcreator.com.
